Who is responsible for your data
Kalkuli (kalkuli.net) is run by Daz Busby in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact me about privacy at info@kalkuli.net.
Your calculations stay on your device
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The numbers and expressions you type are never sent to a server. To make the scientific calculator more convenient, two things are saved in your browser's local storage (not as cookies):
kalkuli_calc_history: your last 30 calculations, so the History panel survives a page refresh;kalkuli_angle_mode: whether you last used degrees or radians.
These never leave your device. Use "Clear all" in the History panel, or clear site data in your browser settings, to remove them.
If you use the contact form
When you send a message, the form passes your name, email address, message and IP address to the web server, which emails them to me. The IP address is included to help block spam and abuse; a hashed copy is kept in a temporary file for up to ten minutes to limit how many messages can be sent in a row. I use your details only to reply to you and deal with what you've raised, and I delete messages once they're no longer needed. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering enquiries and keeping the site free of spam.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the hosting provider keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time). These are used to keep the site running and secure and are not used to identify individual visitors.
Advertising: Google AdSense
Kalkuli is free and is paid for by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners are third-party vendors that may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, to measure how ads perform, and to limit how often you see the same ad.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- If you're in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you'll be asked for consent through a Google-certified consent message before personalised advertising or non-essential cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link shown with that message.
- You can turn off personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings. If you do, you may still see ads, but they won't be based on your browsing.
- You can opt out of other vendors' personalised advertising at youronlinechoices.com (UK and EU) or aboutads.info.
Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. The legal basis for personalised advertising cookies is your consent.
Fonts
Pages load the Inter typeface from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google's servers. Google's handling of that request is covered by the Google privacy policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how it's used, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because Kalkuli has no user accounts, the only personal data I normally hold is what you've sent through the contact form. Email info@kalkuli.net to exercise any of these rights.
If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Kalkuli is a general-audience educational site. It doesn't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you're under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before using the contact form.
